Ground Support Equipment
There are many
different types of Airport
Ground Support Equipment (GSE), which can be broadly categorized into
four main categories: aircraft handling, passenger and baggage handling, cargo
handling, and ground power and lighting. Each type of GSE serves a specific
purpose and is essential for the safe and efficient operation of an airport.
Aircraft
handling GSE includes equipment used to move aircraft around the airport, such
as aircraft tugs, belt loaders, and pushback tractors. Passenger and baggage
handling GSE includes equipment used to process passengers and their luggage,
such as check-in desks, security screening equipment, and baggage conveyor
belts. Cargo handling GSE includes equipment used to load and unload cargo from
aircraft, such as cargo loaders and forklifts. Ground power and lighting GSE
includes equipment used to provide power and lighting for aircraft and airport
facilities, such as generators and runway lights. Airport GSE is typically
owned and operated by the airport authority, but may also be leased or rented
from private companies. The selection of GSE is based on many factors,
including the type and size of aircraft to be handled, the airport layout, and
the climate. Wilcox GSE which has been predominant is manufacturing custom
